The school, which will start functioning from the academic year 2013, will impart the CBSE-International curriculum and will be open to students of all nationalities. Admissions to enrol in the school (from KG 1 to Grade 5) are open from today and parents can apply through the website www.bhavansoman.com.
J. S. Mukul, the Indian ambassador, who launched the school and its website at an event here, said, "I believe the new school will provide another option for students and parents for quality education. I am sure it will add to the total number of seats available to Indians students and thereby help contribute to addressing the shortage of vacancies in schools (Indian) here which, of course, they are trying to accommodate as many students as possible."
Modern International School has been given affiliation to run CBSE-I curriculum. It will start with sections in Grades 1,2,3,4 and 5 comprising a maximum of 25 students in each division as required by CBSE for all CBSE-I classes in the approved schools. Along with this it will have pre-primary classes as well. The school will upgrade every year by one grade until it reaches Grade XII.
The school will have a digital campus and will leverage the benefits of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in learning, teaching, administration and collaboration in education. Dr Ali Al Bemani, vice chancellor of SQU, Fatima bint Abdul Abbas Noorani, director-general of private schools at the Ministry of Education, and Zohair Al Lawati, the sponsor and director of the school, were present at the event.
Speaking at the launch of the school here yesterday, N.K. Ramachandran Menon, Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (Middle East), said, "The new school will share the vision and educational values and best practices followed in other Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan schools all over the world. The primary objective is to provide quality education, strive for academic excellence, focus on child-centered learning, encourage discovery, build individuality, provide experience of world cultures, develop enquiring minds, build character and make global citizens."
Shabbir Boriyawala, director of the school, said, "The school will follow the pattern of other international schools in the Sultanate and will strictly adhere to the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education and CBSE, New Delhi, in implementing all its programmes that would suit the needs of all nationalities."
Dr Keshav, academic advisor of the school said, "We are fully committed to showcasing the time tested values, systems and infrastructure combined with quality education that would aim to produce global citizens. We request parents to fill-in online applications available on www.bhavansoman.com before February 15."
According to the school's website, the fees per term (three terms per academic year) for Kindergarten 1, 2 and Grade 1 is OMR300, and for Grades 2, 3, 4 and 5, it's OMR360. While giving a brief on Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Sooraj Ramachandran said, "It is a brand that spells excellence."
